Landmark of the Town

Built between 1880 and 1884, the Arlberg Railway is notable for its engineering structures. Due to the natural terrain of the Klostertal and Stanzertal valleys, numerous bridges, tunnels, and viaducts had to be constructed. Today, these structures shape the landscape in a unique and distinctive way. In Klösterle, the Wäldletobel Bridge in particular has become a sort of “landmark” of the town due to its location and visibility. The semicircular bridge spans the Wäldletobel Gorge, measuring 114 meters in width and 56 meters in height. The bridge was constructed using local quarry stone masonry. The wooden scaffolding required for this project was later used in the construction of the school building in Klösterle. It stands as an impressive testament to the craftsmanship involved in building the Arlberg Railway. The Klösterle station was once located near the bridge. The railway line was rerouted through the Blisadon Tunnel just over 20 years ago.
