On the second day, the trail leads along the E4 via the Östlicher Johanniskopf (2,508 m) and the Obere Johannisjoch (2,037 m) past the Formarinalpe (managed: mid-June to early Sept.) to the Freiburger Hütte, the second overnight accommodation.

Göppinger Hütte - Johannistal - Formarinalpe - Freiburger Hütte

Sturdy footwear, warm clothing, rain and sun protection, a snack, a full water bottle and hiking poles are recommended. Additional equipment for an overnight stay in a refuge. Cell phone for emergencies.
