Right at the entrance to the Klostertal, visitors are greeted by an imposing and richly varied mountain landscape—rugged peaks, steep torrents, spectacular waterfalls, and intertwining forests and meadows give the Klostertal its truly unique character.
The Klostertaler mountain forests stretch like a ribbon along the sunny side of the Klostertals, from Bludenz to Langen am Arlberg. The landscape is characterized above all by steep forests with abundant deadwood and colorful nutrient-poor meadows. The “untouched forests,” where large numbers of dead trees still remain in some areas, offer ideal conditions for a wide variety of highly specialized species. The most prominent of these are likely the various woodpeckers. A multitude of rare and, in some cases, protected species, such as the colorful orchids, thrive on the flower-rich meadows. The area also buzzes and hums with the activity of insects and other small animals.
The close interconnection of near-natural forests and extensive meadows creates a particularly rich habitat for a wide variety of living creatures—from lichens and mosses to rare heat-loving plants, endangered birds, and shy mammals.
