Bakery | Dalaas
The striking red building has served a variety of purposes since the 19th century—from a “Tyrolean wine bar” to a bakery, a poorhouse, and the headquarters of the Raiffeisenkasse—and is now used as a bakery.
This building, painted in a striking red color—which today houses a bakery—has been used for various purposes over the past one and a half centuries. Like the neighboring“Wachterhaus,” it was once owned by the Wachter family. Here on the street, an inn was established that bore the name“Tiroler Weinstube”or“Wachters Weinstube.”It also housed a bakery and a general store for part of its history. The oldest views show the inscription“Weinstube des Andreas Wachter,”which, according to eyewitness accounts, was still clearly legible as late as the 1920s. Andreas Wachter (1842–1919) ran the establishment, and the wine bar served as a gathering place for liberals. At the beginning of the 20th century, the premises were leased out.
In November 1916, the town of Dalaas purchased the building for 12,600 crowns. It was initially used as a temporary poorhouse , since the building originally intended for that purpose (on the site of the current town hall) had previously burned down. After a new poorhouse was built, the former wine bar served as the premises of the Raiffeisenkasse Dalaas, founded in 1898.
