Current information

The St. Gerold Priory has a history of over 1000 years. This is based on the life of St. Gerold, who lived as a hermit in this valley and acted as a benefactor. Since the 13th century, the priory has belonged to the Benedictine monastery of Einsiedeln in Switzerland.

Today, St. Gerold Priory is the cultural and spiritual center of the region. A dedicated cultural and seminar program offers a variety of events and seminars. Its picturesque location, sun-kissed with a wonderful view of the valley and the mountains, provides the perfect setting for a holiday or further education stay in the Großen Walsertal. The 63 guest rooms impress with their cozy character, lovingly renovated and equipped with all comforts. The dining rooms in the priory pamper you year-round with fine dishes and sweet treats from the in-house patisserie. The horse stable with its loving residents can be visited during the day.

Place of Encounter and Meaning Discovery
The St. Gerold Priory is a creative place where all people are welcomed equally. Regardless of religion, social status, age, or orientation, people can meet here. “St. Gerold is a place where heaven and earth touch.” Here, one can ponder the meaning of life and breathe easy.

Worship Services or Reflection
The newly designed priory church shows how a church can have an impact; the Chapel of Grace and the crypt (lower church) are publicly accessible and available for worship services, weddings, or baptism celebrations for external groups. Even the contemporary cemetery is worth a visit during one's lifetime! Inquiries in this regard can be directed to the priory.

Biosphere Park
Together with the Großen Walsertal, the St. Gerold Priory is committed to a conscious handling of resources. The “care for our common home” (Pope Francis) is lived at the priory. The lovingly designed Laudato-sí garden is a testament to this. Visit it for relaxation or an informative garden tour. The priory is a partner business of the biosphere park.

Path of Senses - Path of Stillness
A meditation circular path starts directly at the St. Gerold Priory, leading into the adjacent forest. Numerous ponds, small paths that cross bridges, surrounded by flowers, bushes, and trees, with benches, invite you to linger and meditate. Unique is the walkable labyrinth, which is also located at the Path of Senses. Upon request, personal tours through the Path of Senses – Path of Stillness up to the labyrinth are also possible.
