Local Museum Paarhof Buacher

A 300-year-old Walser house provides insights into the historical life and work of the people in Brandnertal. Additionally, the museum highlights the history of the development of the Rätikon mountains, along with its mountain huts and peaks.


A place with history: The Paarhof Buacher

The museum itself is a testament to lived history: The over 300-year-old Paarhof Buacher is an impressive example of Walser settlement culture in Brandnertal. Originally located in the parcel Tschapina, the historical property was carefully dismantled between 1991 and 1993 and rebuilt in the town center of Bürserberg, in the parcel Matin. Since its opening in 1993, the building has housed the local museum of the community.

The idea for establishing the museum arose during a historical exhibition in the 1980s. The Fritsche family made their old residential house available for this purpose, which was subsequently redesigned with great volunteer engagement. Today, the Paarhof Buacher vividly offers insights into the former life and work of the mountain farmers and makes the special architectural style and culture of the Walser experienceable.


Themes of the permanent exhibition

In addition to the special exhibition, the permanent exhibition focuses on central aspects of regional history. The following can be seen:

• the old, agrarian way of life in Bürserberg,

• the origin and development of the community,

• the peculiarities of the Schesa mudslide,

• as well as the development of the Rätikon mountains, including its huts and peaks.

A tour of the museum is not only a journey into the past but also a vivid look at the roots of the region – and at what holds a community together over generations.
