Tour description

OPENING SPRING 2026!

Your adventure starts here: Faschina marmot trail - for young and old explorers
A new adventure awaits you in Faschina: the marmot trail. Together you go on a journey of discovery through the alpine world of marmots - playful, active and with plenty of room to try things out. Children and adults experience the trail together, step by step, ball by ball.
The name combines two things that are the focus here: the marmot as a typical inhabitant of the Grosses Walsertal and a wooden marble. Along the way, seven stations accompany you through a day in the life of the animals. Marbles roll around in wooden tracks, puzzles need to be solved and knowledge is gained along the way.

The matching marbles are available from the marble machines at the middle station and the Stafelalpe, as well as at the ticket office at the Stafelalpbahn valley station.

From the top of the pass in Faschina, you can reach the starting point of the theme trail either on foot or comfortably with the Stafelalpbahn. The starting point is at the middle station of the cable car. From there, a varied hiking trail leads to the Franz-Josef-Hütte before continuing to the idyllic Stafelalpsee. The descent then follows via the goods trail down to the Stafelalpe and back to the pass summit in Faschina.

The stations - Experience marmot life with the marmot:

  1. Speed - Marmot race
Being fast can save our marmot lives! Which is the quickest way back to the burrow? Let the ball roll and try it out.
  2. Home sweet home - the marmot burrow
Welcome underground. Which tube has which function? During a short "house tour" it becomes clear why marmots are real team players.
  3. It's time to eat! - Plant station
What's on the menu? The ball rolls to the marmots' favorite plants - but be careful: poisonous plants are also included and should be avoided.
  4. Colorful magic - butterflies
The fluttering beauties enrich life here in the mountains. But which caterpillar belongs to which butterfly? Your marble will find the answer in the labyrinth!
  5. Tough as nails - conifers
Life in the mountains is a challenge, especially for trees. Only the hardy conifers make it up here. But which cone belongs to which tree? Let your marble help you!
  6. Animal neighbors
As we all know, not all neighbors are nice. But which ones should our marmots really fear?
  7. Alpine products
Life on the alp often sounds more romantic than it is. The days on the alpine pasture are associated with strenuous work that yields valuable products such as cheese, milk or butter. How much milk must be used for the various products?

Further information and links

The Franz Josef Hut invites you to take a break. Here there is time for a break, something warm or sweet and a moment to take a deep breath. While some are still talking about the marble runs, others enjoy the view and the cozy atmosphere - a suitable stopover before continuing on.

There is another refreshment stop at the top of the pass in Faschina near the parking lot and bus stop: Lari Fari Café & Restaurant

The Marble Trail is a joint project between the hotel and restaurant businesses in Faschina, Faschina Bergbahnen, Bergholz, Alpenregion Bludenz Tourismus and Damüls Faschina Tourismus. The result is a trail that shares knowledge, promotes exercise and makes it possible to spend time together in nature - for families, friends and anyone who enjoys being out and about.
