Hiking in Gadental

From Sonntag, a small, one-lane road leads deep into a side valley of Großes Walsertal, to Buchboden, a district of this idyllic mountain village. After only a few minutes' drive you reach the hikers' parking lot, the starting point for numerous hikes in the Gadental.

And off you go out into nature: a pleasant hiking trail, past stone deposits from past rockfalls, brings you in a short time to the romantic Bad Rothenbrunnen. What a picturesque place: a traditional inn with a chapel, nestled in the mountain landscape. The crystal clear water of the Lutzbach flows gently out of the valley. Since a shepherd held his injured foot in the reddish water of the Matona river after a Marian apparition and was healed, this former spa house has been considered a special place and healing source. In the listed inn with overnight accommodation you can forget time in the cozy parlor at the tiled stove.

The path continues along the small stream, through cool woods, accompanied by the chimes of grazing animals in the distance. You take a seat on a bench in the middle of nature, pause for a short moment. You close your eyes, take a deep breath. What are you thinking about? What do you hear? Silence. Everything around is forgotten: the stressful everyday life, the challenging time of the last months, are faded out - even if only for a short moment. Peace and relaxation dominate the moment. You slowly open your eyes, admire the untouched natural and cultural landscape: the lush alpine meadows and this seemingly untouchable mountain world and continue hiking.

The ringing of the bells gradually comes closer and after a few meters you can already catch sight of it: the Gadenalpe, a total of 3 huts, run by a young couple. A homemade drink for refreshment or cheese from their own production to take away are offered here. Take a seat, enjoy the view of the distant waterfalls, the peace and the hospitality.

Strengthened you go back again in the direction of Bad Rothenbrunnen. A stop in the cozy guest garden or the lovingly restored guest parlor is almost a must. Enjoy regional delicacies in this idyllic place. After coffee and cake at the end of the hike, return to the starting point. A wonderful hike in Großes Walsertal comes to an end.
