Via ferrata Kellenegg | Brand

closed

A good opportunity to make the first climbing moves in the new summer season has recently been offered by a via ferrata in Brandnertal. Only a few steps away from the town center of Brand and the Brandnertal climbing park, it leads 80 meters and 60 vertical meters up a rock slab. The ascent from the Kellenegg goods path takes just under 15 minutes: that's almost luxury for via ferrata climbers. From the Brandnertal climbing park, the trail leads out of the valley for a few minutes, then a hiking trail branches off to the southeast. The entrance is easy to find and the climbing fun can begin. The most difficult passage falls into category C and holds a slight overhang. The majority of the via ferrata is in difficulty B and can be easily mastered in 40 minutes. Experienced climbers will be through relatively quickly, but pausing to enjoy the view is definitely worth it now and then. The steps are placed at distances that are easy to manage. Children can also gain their first experience on the rock here. The appropriate equipment can be rented at the Brandnertal climbing park.

Equipment

Complete via ferrata equipment (via ferrata set, helmet, hip belt, gloves) and proper footwear (sturdy ankle-high mountain boots with good tread) are essential.

Route description

Start: Village center, Brand

End: Village center, Brand

Access

The approach is from the center of Brand, past the climbing park Brandnertal (forest rope park) and via the hiking trail Kellenegg to the entrance.

Route description

The via ferrata starts with a short steep step (B), continues over a ledge (B/C) to a ramp (B). From here the route leads over a steep slab (B/C) until you come to the first C-pitch. This short overhang (C) must be overcome before the route continues over a ramp (B) to the next steep step (B/C) and subsequently to the last slightly overhanging section. The last meters run through wooded areas (A/B and A).

Descent

From the end of the climb, follow the path briefly uphill and then via the Kellenegg hiking trail back to the center of Brand.
