Detailed description

Special Exhibition 2025 at the Paarhof Buacher Museum

“Bürserberg: History. Community. People.”
Insights into the development of the village from the 18th century to today

The summer of 2025 at the Paarhof Buacher Museum is dedicated entirely to the history of Bürserberg. The special exhibition “Bürserberg: History. Community. People.” explores the captivating evolution of the village over more than two centuries. From traditional life in remote Walser houses to the dynamics of a modern rural community, the exhibition vividly shows how daily life, social structures, and human connections have changed over time – and how the traces of this history can still be felt today.

A Place Steeped in History: The Paarhof Buacher

The museum itself is a living testament to local heritage: the over 300-year-old Paarhof Buacher is a remarkable example of Walser settlement culture in the Brandnertal. Originally located in the Tschapina area, this historic farmhouse was carefully dismantled between 1991 and 1993 and reconstructed in the village center of Bürserberg, in the Matin area. Since its opening in 1993, the building has housed the village’s local museum.

The idea to establish the museum was born in the 1980s, inspired by a historical exhibition. The Fritsche family donated their old residence for this purpose, and thanks to the dedicated efforts of local volunteers, it was transformed into a museum. Today, the Paarhof Buacher offers a vivid and authentic look into the everyday lives and work of mountain farmers and brings the unique architecture and culture of the Walser people to life.

Themes of the Permanent Exhibition

Alongside the special exhibition, the museum’s permanent exhibition focuses on key aspects of regional history, including:

  • traditional rural life in Bürserberg,

  • the founding and development of the village,

  • the unique features of the Schesa landslide area,

  • and the exploration of the Rätikon mountains, including its huts and peaks.

A walk through the museum is not just a journey into the past – it's a vibrant encounter with the roots of this region and with the values that have bound its people together across generations.
