Day of Monuments – Tour with Mag. Ute Denkenberger, MA (Vorarlberg Museum)
War memorials can be found in almost every community, but they are often barely noticed. Using the example of Bludenz, art historian Ute Denkenberger explores the cultural history of the monument and demonstrates how the monument has shaped collective memory. The Vorarlberg architect Alfons Fritz designed the Bludenz war memorial in 1928 as an extraordinary "walkable sculpture." The site only reveals itself through the experience of passing through its stations and invites reflection on memory, commemoration, and the significance of such places in the present.
Ute Denkenberger is an art historian specializing in architecture and directs the collection of the Vorarlberg Museum.
