Butterfly Biodiversity

"And my soul spread its wings wide ..."

There is a mysterious magic inherent in the metamorphoses from caterpillar, pupa to butterfly. In evolution, butterflies have developed amazing adaptations to their environment. On her wings there are drawings that look like eyes, bark or dead leaves. Butterflies are the "transformers" of the insect world. Many years of intensive examination of spiritual traditions as well as trips to indigenous peoples inspire the artist to perceive the BUTTERFLY SPIRIT also in its symbolism.

The Greek word "psyche" means both soul and butterfly. Species diversity is based on a great diversity of biotopes. The protection of the habitats is therefore a basic requirement for the preservation of butterfly diversity. We use butterflies as bio-indicators. Choosing Raggal, a tranquil mountain village in the Grosses Walsertal Biosphere Park in the Vorarlberg Alps, as the exhibition venue, invites you to deal with this sensitive topic. In the photo portrait with the title animal spirit, Bohne presents herself with closed eyes as a hybrid of animal and human.

The whole face is covered like a mask with dark, light-colored wing segments. Wings of day and night butterflies laid in mosaics become a quiet contemplation of nature. In the macro shots of butterfly wings, photographed by the artist, the aesthetics of the insect wing becomes graphic in its Perfection visible.

The exhibition "Butterfly Biodiversity" by the artist Bettina Bohne will take place from 02/01/2021 to 07/31/2021 from Friday to Sunday from 14:00 to 18:00.
