Even in old age and increasingly plagued by dementia, the independent Anthony (Anthony Hopkins) refuses any help from his daughter Anne (Olivia Colman). This help becomes indispensable when Anne decides to move to Paris with her husband Paul (Rufus Sewell) and Anthony has to stay alone in the apartment where Anne and Paul live with him. That this will not work is already clear from the fact that Anthony always gets very confused. He wonders about the unknown man (Mark Gatiss) who suddenly sits in the living room and claims to be his son-in-law Paul. And even the woman (Olivia Williams), who comes home shortly afterwards and claims to be his daughter Anne, he does not recognize. The nurse Laura (Imogen Poots) is supposed to help Anthony, but even if he is charming at first: He has already pissed off other nurses with his mood swings ...
"An impressive, enlightening cinematic experience, in which the emphatically acting Anthony Hopkins can set accents." (
"An unusual, actually‘ mind-expanding ’cinematic experience and great, moving acting." (epd film)
"First class drama cinema!" ( “‘ A bigger world ’tells of grief, consolation and a shaman. A nice film." (Butterfly)
