Verein allerArt: LeinwandLounge 'Minari - Where we put down roots'

Jacob (Steven Yeun) decides to move his Korean-American family from Los Angeles to a small farm in Arkansas. While he sees the wild Ozarks as the promised land, his wife Monica (Yeri Han) and the children David (Alan Kim) and Anne (Noel Kate Cho) feel strange in their new home. The family's coexistence is suddenly turned upside down when the clever, quick-witted and incredibly loving grandmother Soonja (Youn Yuh-Jung) leaves her homeland of Korea and moves to live with them in the USA. Soonja finds an ally in her curious, rebellious grandson David. Together they manage to re-establish the magical bond between the family members despite all the setbacks and difficulties and thereby pave the way for them to a hopeful future together. "Touching, truly, beautiful - a supposedly‘ small ’film about childhood, family and the Korean-American dream, which will not only make it big because of its many Oscar nominations." (filmstarts.de) "With enormous empathy for its characters, the film tells of the search for the promised land and subtly modernizes the settler history of North America under the sign of interculturality and new social dynamics." (filmdienst.de) “A warm-hearted family film with a gentle sense of humor. (programmkino.de) “Touching story of a strong family - told with love and honesty.” (FBW - Filmbewertungsstelle).
