Verein allerArt: LeinwandLounge 'Gott existiert, ihr Name ist Petrunya'

Every January, in a small village in Macedonia, the priest throws a cross into the local waters, while at the same time hundreds of men set out to find the cross again. The one who finds the cross should gain happiness and prosperity for a lifetime. The unemployed young woman Petrunija (Zorica Nusheva) jumps into the water and finds the cross. In this conservative environment, their competitors have the right to be angry: a woman has dared to compete and achieve what men are trying to achieve. Petrunija insists she is the winner and refuses to return the cross.

"The comedic highlight of the Berlinale" ( "Ironic, rebellious and deadly serious ... Zorica Nusheva is a force, film a revelation" (
"'God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya' shows without pretense how women still have to fight for their freedom of self-determination and equality in our time." (Maximum Cinema)
"A wonderfully snappy society satire - and a great courageous women's movie!" (St. Galler Tagblatt)
"Teona Strugar Mitevska's oeuvre plays on a single day and, despite the gravity of the topics being negotiated, never loses sight of the comic in the tragic. The film is important and witty, snappy and touching, concentrated and powerful. "(Bieler Tagblatt)
