Johanna Dohnal was a lesbian-feminist superhero. Now Derflinger recalls her legacy with historical precision: active in the SPÖ since 1956, district councillor since 1969, party headquarters since 1972, State Secretary for Women's Issues since 1979 and Federal Minister for Women's Affairs in 1990-94. This list does not even begin to give an idea of the far-reaching initiatives that Dohnal brought to fruition, from the criminal prosecution of marital rape and the founding of the first women's shelter to the crediting of childhood time in the pension reform. This film comes at the right time. Let us inspire you! (Viennale) "Proof that the seeds she and many other feminists have sown have been passed on. And that even in times like these, when much looks like a backlash, the ideas and messages will prevail in the end. Simply because they are good and right and should be taken for granted, but they are far from being so. ( "One of the best political films of recent years, a document of the times, which hopefully many younger people will watch. Even for contemporary witnesses, the film is full of moments that evoke both horror and laughter. (courier) "Not only as a contribution to feminist historiography is 'Die Dohnal' bitterly needed. It is also a wake-up call that reminds us that in view of the populist dumb-cheek machos reaching for emancipatory achievements everywhere, there is not the slightest reason to sit back and relax - quite the contrary.
