Verein allerArt: DiskursDirekt 'Macht und Verantwortung des Europ. Parlaments'

The lecture deals with the question of which challenges the European Parliament, directly re-elected in May 2019, will face. Starting from the assumption that due to BREXIT and the continuing strength of right-wing extremist and Eurosceptic parties in this Parliament can not form a grand coalition of Christian Democrats (EPP) and Social Democrats (S & D) for the first time since the introduction of the direct election, Maurer illuminates possible constellations of parliamentary work in its interior Structure, vis-à-vis the other EU institutions and Member States and European citizenship. Prof. Dr. Andreas Maurer, b. 1965 in Koblenz, works as a professor, owner of the Jean Monnet Chair for EU Integration and director of the Innsbruck Center for European Research ( at the Institute of Political Science of the University of Innsbruck. Maurer studied Political Science, European and International Law, Social Psychology and Sociology in Frankfurt am Main, Paris and at the College of Europe Bruges and received his doctorate at the University of Giessen under Reimund Seidelmann. He researches the role and functions of the European Parliament, the theory and conception of the European multi-level parliamentarism, the international trade policy and the institutional development of the EU. Maurer previously worked at the Institute for European Politics (Bonn), the University of Cologne, as Head of the European Departments of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs and as a contract agent in the Secretariat-General of the European Parliament. In 2002 he received the Science Award of the German Bundestag, in 2007 the Media Prize of the Association of Foreign Press in Germany. Further information at
