For centuries, the town hall of Bludenz stood as the center of civic self-government in the middle of the old town of Bludenz. Even today, the portal with the town's coat of arms (unicorn) refers to the former function of the mighty building. In the 1970s, long-planned building projects were implemented in Bludenz, including the construction of a new town hall. The Johann Gassner villa in Werdenbergstraße, which dated back to 1857, was chosen as the location. This was demolished in 1972. The new town hall was built here over the next two years and was completed in time for the "700 years of Bludenz" celebrations (with reference to the alleged founding of the town in 1274). The plans for the new building were drawn up by the nationally renowned architectural firm C4, which included Karl Sillaber from Bludenz. The 50th anniversary of Bludenz town hall is the occasion for the town's summer exhibition. Both the building project itself and the history of the town administration are the subject of the exhibition.
