Fuzzman & The Singing Rebels

While the previous works always had a motto, a template, a concept in front - be it likeable lofi indie folk, sunshine pop, country, soul or, most recently, increasingly tongue-in-cheek alternative hits - behind which one could make oneself comfortable and hide in order to meander and experiment aimlessly, Fuzzman's latest work subsumes all these finger exercises of the last few years and brings them together to form Herwig Zamernik's masterpiece. "Hands Off Everything" is at least on a par with the best works of his other project Naked Lunch (with whom he has, of course, already been on a par for years in terms of live and record sales as Fuzzman). In the end, all these experiments were worth it; the way he homogenises them here and for the first time presents a work with a red thread, which is still bursting with eclecticism, sly humour and thus can only sound like Fuzzman, but still offers this added value of an artist who has come into his own will positively surprise many without knocking the old fans on the head. The inner turmoil and agitation that runs through titles like "Wir sagen nichts", "I tua wohl" and "Trümmer", the pop magic of the title song, all embedded in his trademark lamento howl. In addition, Zamernik transfers the mannerisms so readily exhibited by pop wizards such as the Flaming Lips, whom he admires, but also by Beck, Badly Drawn Boy, Serge Gainsbourg, Udo Jürgens or Ennio Morricone ("Ein Stern der keinen Namen trägt") into the fuzzoversum, making this record a vessel breathing his spirit, the concentrate of his DNA. Wistfulness, hope, laconic humour paired with warmth of heart and a wisdom that only a true fool can have. Fuzzman, ultimately something of a godfather of the Austrian pop miracle of the last few years (Voodoo Jürgens, Pauls Jets, Kreisky or even Pippa are all among his pupils) now presents his album for the Austrian pop pantheon with "Hände weg von Allem" at the latest.
